I was born in the middle of four other siblings for my parents: two before me and two after me. I do not know if this makes me the privilege one or the disadvantaged. One thing for sure, I was always determined to win, being fully cognizant that God lives inside of me and his infallable nature undergirds me. Growing up however, struggle was part of the process. I was definitely not one of the privileged ones amongst my peers. I grew up poor; we grew up poor, period. The same could be said my peers, but I would argue that some were more advantaged than I was.
My early years were a shuttle between two homes, the latter of which was in a little old house that I shared with my grandmother for nine (9) years was, until age 21. That little wooden house was my training room; my motivation to work hard for a brighter future. One of my dreams as a teenager was to attend secondary school in Kingston. But sadly or otherwise, it never happened. Feeling despaired about my not getting placed into a school of my liking, I felt overlooked. After my enrollment at the Mavis Bank High School, weeks into the new school year, I received a mail at the post office confirming my placement at the Papine High School. Notwithstanding, I opted to remain at Mavis Bank High and it became my shining star. Today, I am who I am on account of the then, little known, country school. I took what I could get there, and I made the best of it. Fast forward to 24 years later, much have happened. I left Jamaica almost two decades years ago and spent twelve of those years in Bermuda before moving to the USA. As they would say, the rest is history!
